Opera, concert and recording engagements have been the main feature of Martin’s diverse career.
Some roles have been written for him, such as Dr Kalmenius in Philip Pullman/Stephen McNeff’s Clockwork.
Some shows were award winners: Sweeney Todd at the National Theatre; McNeff’s Tarka the Otter; OperaUpClose’s production of La Bohème in a pub.
Or celebrated: the title role in Pimlico Opera’s Sweeney Todd in Wormwood Scrubs; the world premiere of Stockhausen’s Mittwoch Aus Licht for the Cultural Olympiad 2012.
His operatic repertoire is bass/buffo bass and ranges from Monteverdi through Gilbert & Sullivan to contemporary.
