This was a real Lewis and Clark moment a year ago: I had come up against some cul de sacs where a mapped road was completely amputated by a motorway, and East Lane Bedmond was deteriorating ominously– in fact it had descended into a quagmire. But this is a still from a short video, and with my excited commentary accompanying I turned my phone 180º to reveal a foot tunnel under the motorway. The C25 (Arc 11 inner) lay a quarter mile beyond and recce of this late entrant spoke from Elstree to Bedmond via Bricket Wood was successfully completed. It’s a really good spoke too, despite its proximity to the M25 and M1, with a truly bucolic section as it crosses the river Colne.
